Upcoming Expeditions
September 10, 2025: Our first Insight Expedition will center on maps and navigation—how we find our way and how our community is shaped. Learners will explore historical maps of Lexington, then visit Rockbridge Administrative offices to see how modern mapping tools like Rockbridge County’s GIS system support everything from emergency services to planning and zoning. We’ll also visit local realtors and surveyors to learn about site design, hydrology, and more. Along the way, learners will discover how maps aren’t just guides for getting around—they’re tools for understanding and shaping the world around us.
September 24, 2025: Our second Insight Expedition will take learners inside local government to see how decisions are made and services are provided. From meeting community leaders to exploring the roles of different departments, we’ll get a firsthand look at the systems that keep Lexington and Rockbridge running. This session will highlight the connections between citizens and government, and invite learners to think about their own role in shaping civic life.
